25 pitch shots with impact ball
– 10 yards of the green
– Focused on proper set up
– Pick out landing spot, and try to land the ball at a landing spot approximately 10 yards ahead of you

I use my most lofted wedge (62*) for all my pitch shots. It is easier for me to change my ball position instead of switching clubs in order to hit higher and lower shots

This weeks practice is focused on the short game. Before going out to practice, I want you to ask yourself these questions…

1.What do you need to improve most today? The answer to question should be the main focus for your practice today.

My example – “I need to get more comfortable with the new set up for basic pitch shots.”

2. Why do you need to improve this aspect? This will help you understand why you are working on this, giving you clarity and better results.

My example – “My pitch shots have been very inconsistent. I will chunk it, thin it and occassionally hit one solid. Working on the appropriate set up will help me get consistent impact on all my pitch shots so I can be better at distance control around the greens.”

3. How am I going to fix this flaw? These are the drills and the process you will do in order to improve the weakness.

My example – “I am going to warm up with the impact ball to ensure that my impact position is good. I am going to hit basic pitch shots from 10 yards of the green and I am going to do the ladder drill to finish my warm up. After I get a good feeling of the proper impact position I am going to go around the green with my focus being solely on my set up and tempo.”

Pitch shot set up changes: I have over done the pitch shot set up fundamentals.

Set up with feet slightly open (was too far open)

Ball position in the middle of stance for basic pitch shots (was too far back)

Weight 60% on the front leg (was getting too much weight on my left side)

Practice With Clarity And Purpose

Planning your practice before you go to the golf course you are able to have more clarity and structure leading to a more efficient practice.

1. Warm up your short game while improving your impact!

25 pitch shots with impact ball
– 10 yards of the green
– Focused on proper set up
– Pick out landing spot, and try to land the ball at a landing spot approximately 10 yards ahead of you

2. Simulate the golf course, hitting a variety of shots at different targets

25 shots to different targets
– Take 5 balls
– Pick a pitch shot and hit 5 balls
– Pick up your balls and go to a new spot, hit 5 more shots
– Do this 5 times, so you will hit 5 balls from each of the 5 locations equalling 25 total shots

3. Ladder drill for longer pitch shots

20, 30, 40 yard pitch shots
– Start at the 20 yard target and try to land it on that target. Then hit it to the 30 yard, then 40 yards
– After you hit the 40 yard, come back down the ladder to 30 yards, then 20
– Go up and down the ladder 10 times (up and back equals 1 set or time)
